Distinctive, Cotswold interiors

Designed for the way you live

Luxury Interior design for significant homes in Cheltenham and the Cotswolds, from first concept to final installation.

The House Ministry is a luxury interior design studio, based in Cheltenham and working across the Cotswolds

We design distinctive interiors for homes across the Cotswolds: the kind that feel personal rather than decorated, and that work as well as they look.

Every project begins with a single question: how should this home actually feel to live in? From there, we develop the full design, rethinking layouts, specifying materials, designing bespoke joinery and curating every furnishing, and oversee its delivery from first drawing to final installation.

We have a deep understanding of proportion, light and materiality. The result is interiors with real depth: homes that are engaging to be in, not simply well put-together.

Good design begins before anyone picks up a paintbrush.

The homes we admire most are not the result of good taste alone. They are the result of good thinking, applied early and in the right order.

Before colour, before fabrics, before furniture, we work out how the home should function. How the rooms connect. Where the light falls and how to use it. Which walls are working against the space, and which decisions will define how the house feels for the next twenty years.

That thinking shapes everything that follows. It is what separates a home that simply looks finished from one that feels genuinely right.

Every project starts from somewhere different. Here is where most of our clients begin:

Planning a renovation? Working with an architect, thinking about structural changes, or looking at reconfiguring how your home works? We develop the interior design alongside the build: layouts, lighting, bespoke joinery, materials and finishes, so that every decision is made deliberately before work begins on site rather than reactively once it has.

Moving or furnishing a home? Relocating to the Cotswolds, purchasing a second property, or moving into a house that needs to feel like yours? We take the home from empty shell to fully furnished interior, every room thought through, every detail sourced and installed, so you can walk in and simply live in it.

Not sure where to start? You know the house needs attention but are not yet certain what that means in practice: what is involved, what order to approach things, or what it is likely to cost. That is a completely normal starting point, and often the most valuable conversation to have early.

Whichever applies, the right place to start is the same: a Project Scoping Session.

The right place to start: the Project Scoping Session

From £850 + VAT

We know. You want to talk about colours, furniture and how the kitchen is going to look. This is not that session. But it is the one that makes everything that follows considerably more worthwhile.

Most home projects do not fail at the design stage. They derail much earlier: when the scope was not properly defined, the sequence was not thought through, and decisions started being made before the right questions had been asked.

The Project Scoping Session is the opening part of Step 1: Foundation, the first stage of our six-step process.  In a focused, structured consultation we look at your home, your early ideas, and how you want the space to work.

Within a week of the session, you’ll receive a written Project Strategy Report covering the right scope for what you are trying to achieve, a broad cost framework, the order decisions need to be made in, and how to avoid the most common and expensive early-stage mistakes.

If you choose not to proceed further, it stands alone as a valuable piece of strategic thinking in its own right. If you do go on to commission a full project, Step 1 continues from there: moving into your likes and dislikes, colour direction, furniture shapes and a full site survey.  Because the strategic groundwork is already done, that process is sharper and more effective from the outset.

The session fee is credited in full against your design fee if you proceed with a full project, so there is no financial risk in starting here.
