Regency Apartment Interior Design – The Brief

The clients approached us to rework their Cheltenham apartment to better suit their needs as a multi-generational second home. The apartment had charm and potential but suffered from an awkward layout, dated bathrooms, and a lack of practical storage. The family wanted the space to feel calm, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed — somewhere they could relax and spend time together without the hassle of managing a project remotely.

Our Approach

We began by rethinking the layout from first principles. Working within the restrictions of the listed building, we reconfigured the apartment to improve flow, privacy and usability without increasing the footprint.

Apartment Interior Design – Key changes include :

  • Moving the kitchen to a more logical, light-filled position at the heart of the home
  • Enlarging and repositioning the bathrooms to make better use of space

  • Adding a dedicated laundry cupboard — a small but essential addition for family living

  • Reworking the bedroom layouts to provide flexibility and privacy for visiting family members

  • Combining the old kitchen space into the single bedroom to provide a 3rd double bedroom, laid out as a snug with a sofa bed, to provide flexibility and privacy for visiting family members

Every design decision was made to balance character with practicality, making the most of the apartment’s proportions while introducing smart joinery, soft layers, and a refined, contemporary palette.

Original enclosed kitchen with dated wooden cabinetry and tiled flooring, disconnected from the main living space prior to reconfiguration.
Completed snug area in a Regency apartment, featuring soft neutral tones, plush rug, bespoke console with pink stools, and layered lighting for a calm and inviting feel.
A bright and inviting snug room featuring a soft blue sofa, bespoke built-in joinery with integrated TV, and a fluffy neutral rug in a Regency apartment in Cheltenham.

Visualising the Design

One of the ways we help clients feel confident in the design process is by providing 3D visuals of key spaces. These gave our clients the ability to clearly envisage their home before any building work begins — understanding exactly how the layout, finishes, and flow will work, so they can sign off the design phase with complete clarity.

Fantastic. I have worked with several other interior designers and none came close to the thoroughness Julia and Jess took to really understand what we wanted to achieve. The end result exceeded my expectations and we are all very happy.

We handled the entire project on behalf of the clients, from initial design through to final styling, so they could focus on enjoying the end result rather than managing the process.

Bespoke wardrobes and a matching chest of drawers with brass handles, styled with a vase of eucalyptus and a textured mirror in a Regency bedroom.
Soft-toned bedroom with botanical headboard, layered cushions, and integrated bedside reading light.

Before & After – The Transformation

The apartment’s original layout was compromised and disconnected. The transformation has not only updated the interiors, but reworked how the family can use and enjoy the space.

Traditional living room before renovation, featuring dated curtains, dark wooden furniture, and muted green carpet.
Redesigned living room with light sage walls, modern chandelier, and armchairs by a large window in a Regency apartment in Cheltenham.
Twin bedroom before redesign, with arch detail, dated furniture, and traditional window treatments in need of modernisation.
Light-filled twin bedroom with soft neutral walls, tailored window treatments, and coordinated accessories in a Regency apartment redesign.
Traditional dining area with carpeted flooring and outdated furnishings before conversion into an open-plan kitchen.
Modern kitchen with blue shaker-style cabinetry, pendant lighting, and breakfast bar seating in a reconfigured Regency apartment.
Dated bathroom with basic white tiling, bulky radiator, and traditional sink and toilet before renovation.
Modernised bathroom featuring a bath-shower combo, soft neutral tiling, integrated storage and patterned splashback in a Regency apartment.
